Joewi Verhoeven NSC, is an award-winning Dutch-Chinese cinematographer based in Los Angeles. His work has screened at major film festivals around the world, including Tribeca, Camerimage, San Sebastián, Locarno, Rotterdam, Busan, and Cannes Lions, among others.
Born in the Netherlands, Joewi moved to Beijing at 18 and became the first foreigner to earn a BFA in Cinematography from the Beijing Film Academy. He later completed an MFA in Cinematography at the American Film Institute.
He is an ASC Graduate award winner and cinematography fellow of Film Independent’s Project Involve Program.
Joewi’s approach to image-making is spiritual - to infuse every frame with a soul and authenticity, while never losing sight of the story.
In his spare time he likes to play guitar for his baby boy.
